In 2002 Ward organized the first Beat the Drum circle at La Tierra de la Culebra, bringing together performers from various drumming traditions. Collectively, the group creates a sonic environment that celebrates the drum as a universal symbol of exchange through its emulation of the human heart.
Beat the Drum has been performed at the Craft and Folk Art Museum and the Ford Amphitheater.
