Shared Foundation | 1998
In 1998 Ward was invited to be an artist-in-residence at Project Row Houses, a community-based housing and art project founded by Deborah Grotfeldt and Rick Lowe in Houston, TX. Ward was given an empty row house in which to produce a site-responsive artwork. She engaged community members and the families that lived in the adjacent row houses to create a series of linoleum painted tiles which she then assembled into a narrative floor covering. The installation covered the entirety of the row house while the walls remained blank. This house-cum-gallery was open for 6 months as a space for reflection and gathering.
