Reptilia Island Playground | Pasadena, CA | 1991
Reptilia Island Playground is an unrealized proposal for the City of Pasadena's Central Park. Conceived of as a playground-cum-learning center, the curvature of the reptile design scheme formed discrete yet fluid activity spaces. The nose served as a slide, swings hung from the ribs, and the backside of the head was a half-moon amphitheater. At the tip of the curving tail was a waterspout that cascaded into a small pond area. The City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation chose to adapt this design for a site adjoining the Debs Park Renaissance Skills Center.
